December | December | December | 1 | 2 | 3 | 4 - 10:00am-12:00 noon – Lovingkindness Reflection
10:00 AM-12:00 PM 2020.01.04 Cultivate an Open HeartThe practice of Metta or Lovingkindness reflection helps us to develop and sustain a felt sense and attitude of lovingkindness toward ourselves, others, and all beings everywhere. Metta is a part of the Buddha’s heart teachings about lovingkindness, or the Brahma Viharas – compassion, sympathetic joy, equanimity, and “unbounded friendship” – often called as a group the “Heavenly Abodes.” This workshop will bring participants into experiences of lovingkindness and focus on how to bring about compassion, sympathetic joy, equanimity, and “unbounded friendship” in one’s daily life. The workshop will consider sila (virtue), samadhi (concentration), and pañña (wisdom) as they relate to lovingkindness. Since the purpose is to cultivate lovingkindness and good will, the workshop will be of benefit to anyone who is interested in the topic, no matter what spiritual tradition you might be interested in, or, for that matter, whether you are interested or involved in any spiritual tradition at all. The focus will simply be on how a person can cultivate a felt sense and attitude of lovingkindness toward themselves, others, and all beings everywhere. Workshop Leader: Fred Martinson

19 - 2:00 to 4:00pm Community Sing
2:00 PM-4:00 PM 2020.01.19 Sacred Singing 2:00pm to 4:000pm Sunday, January 19, 2020
Everyone can sing, and it is incredibly valuable – whether you think you can sing or not. Come find out why singing will help you experience a much fuller and richer life.Join a group of people who have been singing and chanting together for 10 years. Several in this group did not think they could sing when the group began, but it quickly became clear that this is not about singing the way we did in school. This is fun, and will help you discover how singing and chanting songs from many traditions – from ancient to modern, from folk songs to ballads – will help you experience a fuller and richer life. This workshop is for anyone and everyone who would like to open their heart and expand into the deeper places that singing has been used to carry human beings for thousands of years. You do not need any prior training or experience in singing with a group. In fact, if you have felt uncomfortable singing in the past, this is your chance to overcome that concern – to let go and enjoy using your voice, to begin connecting with yourself and others through song and chant. Join us for this enjoyable and deepening afternoon!
